Hello New York!

Hello New York! We had a family trip to New York recently. It wasn’t a vacation but I tried to make it as enjoyable as possible for the Dayngrous Duo. They loved their very first trip to New York, the Big Apple, and can’t wait to return again. New York is a very exciting place for them! I think the subway was the kids’ favorite with taxi rides being a close second, though they loved being able to walk everywhere and experience all sorts of new sights and sounds.

Fall was in full effect in NYC and we got to enjoy a little cool weather, which was a nice change for all of us. Most of all, the kids couldn’t believe all the parks and beautiful places in the middle of such a big city. They thought NYC was just busy streets and lots of building before they got to see it for themselves.

Hello NY! 

New York Visit, Statue of Liberty

The photo of the Statue of Liberty {above} was taken from the Staten Island Ferry. It was the kids’ first time seeing it and it was so wonderful and heartwarming to be able to share the experience with them. What a thrill. I even took them to one of my favorite spots, Burgers and Cupcakes.

Remind me to tell you about the time we accidentally wandered into Occupy Wall Street. Oh yes, there are pictures. Always an adventure when you travel with me.

Don’t Step on the Floor Art

I love art. I especially love floor art by the Dayngrous Duo.

We don’t do lots of crafty things around here because I am absolutely awful at DIY projects. Because of this, most of our artwork is created and designed by the kids and they sure do love making music and art.
 
In fact, they have colored pencils, markers, crayons, play-doh, clay, and these fun little stringy things, called Bendaroos.

Today’s artwork was created using those fun Bendaroos. The best way to describe them is string covered in bendable wax.
 
I wonder if that’s their interpretation of my face when I see that they’ve made art on the floor? But seriously, I love their creativity and encourage it.

Early Viewing of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Movie

Disney and Klout invited me, along with a few select social media influencers, to an early screening of the new Winnie the Pooh movie before it hit theaters July 15, 2011. It was a pleasure to take my to children to their first big-screen adventure to the Hundred Acre Wood with everyone’s favorite bear. The movie was adorable and the perfect length for little kids. A New Appreciation for Winnie the Pooh and Friends

Rex and Bella loved it and have a new-found appreciation for the Tigger, Pooh, and Eyeore stuffed animals they have at home.

Halloween Adventures In The DayngrZone

Halloween adventures in the DayngrZone are always a fun time. One of our family mottos is that life is always an adventure. So regardless of what happens in life along the way, we make it a good time.

Halloween where we live can be a challenge. Our neighborhood has changed over the years. When I was a child, we knew all our neighbors and it was completely safe to go trick or treating house to house. Now the demographics in our neighborhood have changed. There aren’t many families with children, people keep to themselves, aren’t very friendly, and don’t speak English. Plus, we don’t get many kids coming to the door for candy. There seems to be fewer each year.

Because of this, we haven’t ever taken the kids trick or treating in the neighborhood. We usually opt for alternatives like going to the Miami Seaquarium or Children’s Museum where they set up specifically for the kids. The kids love it and they clean up in the candy department and best of all for me, I know everything is safe.

This year we stayed home because Rex didn’t feel well, but we still had a grand old time!

Things didn’t turn out exactly as we planned since my little Batman has been sick since last week. He really didn’t mind staying in the house while Batgirl went trick or treating for the very first time around the block. I think he was more excited about wearing his costume than actually going trick or treating (which was ok by me), so it wasn’t a battle at all when I suggested he stay in the house. He was quite content passing out candy to the handful of ghosts and goblins that came knocking.

They’re off from school Nov 1st and 2nd so tomorrow we’ll probably bake some cupcakes and decorate them in fall colors.

National Teacher Appreciation Week

It’s National Teacher Appreciation Week at the kids’ preschool and it’s been fun and a little stressful trying to get it all done – times two. They have a full week of activities ahead.

Here’s what their week looks like: 

  • Monday – They created cards with their handprints, photos, and a note listing three adjectives about their teacher.
  • Tuesday – They each brought in Lindor chocolates to be added to their teachers’ candy dishes.
  • Wednesday – They each brought in three roses for their teachers to be added to the class bouquet.
  • Thursday – They’ll each bring in a photo of themselves to create a scrapbook page for their teachers.
  • Friday – They’ll be surprising me with their Mother’s Day creations at a Mother’s Day Breakfast at school.

I Love You Sometimes

I almost fell out of the driver seat laughing. She really is a riot. So I asked her, “Just sometimes, not all the time?” and she replied:

A lot of the time

She cracks me up!  Not to be outdone, Rex chimed in:

Mommy, I love you ALL THE TIME

He’s going to make some girl very happy one day.
