Get to know Sarah of 702 Park Project
1. How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in February 2013. But I got serious about it a year later, in February 2014, when I invested in a blog rebranding and upgraded to a self-hosted site.
2. What do you blog about?
At 702 Park Project you’ll find lots of updates on our home restoration, including DIY projects, before and afters, décor choices, etc. You’ll also find lots of interior design inspiration, favorite sources, interviews with top interior designers, and the occasional personal post.
3. Why did you start blogging?
I originally started blogging as a way to chronicle the restoration of our 1902 American Foursquare in eastern NC. We bought the house, which used to belong to my husband’s family years ago, out of foreclosure and began pouring our hearts, souls, blood, sweat, tears, and money into it immediately. At that point, the blog basically served as a scrapbook for myself, as well as for a handful of family members that also followed along. Since then, the blog has developed into much more than that. It has become my voice and my therapy. I really have grown to love blogging immensely, and I am especially grateful for the community of bloggers that I now call friends.
4. What is your FAVORITE post you’ve ever written (you can pick 2)?
I really loved finally sharing the reveal of our master bathroom. When we bought our house, part of the upstairs had originally been an apartment. We decided to make the upstairs kitchen into our master bathroom, and were thrilled with the results. This post shows that process from beginning to end.
One of my favorite things to do is shop for antique and vintage home décor items. I’ve scoured antique malls, thrift stores, and estate sales to pull together my collection. In my post “The ABCs of Vintage Shopping” I share a few of my best tips, plus my favorite places to shop in NC!
5. What blog do you love?
How can I choose just one?! A few of my daily reads: Better After, La Dolce Vita, DIY Playbook, Emily Henderson, Waiting on Martha, and Savvy Home Blog.
6. What is your biggest piece of advice for other bloggers?
Do it for you. Sure, it’s great to gain a bunch of followers and possibly even make a little money. But if blogging (or specifically, what you’re blogging about) doesn’t excite you, you’ll burn out pretty quickly, and what was once fun will suddenly be a monstrous chore. And remember it’s ok to take a step back now and then to recharge.
7. What are you looking forward to for you as a blogger in the upcoming months (conferences, big blog release, book release, publishing, community, redesign, new content, etc)?
I’ve been dying to attend a blog conference, but just haven’t had the time. Maybe that’s something I can make happen in 2015! I’m also excited about starting a sponsorship program on my blog very soon.
