For many of us, Mondays are hard. I’m not sure if it’s the idea of coming off the weekend, returning to work, or just the stress of everyday life that makes so many of us dread Monday but dread it we do. What if we could shift our attitudes? The topic of today’s Motivational Monday – Choose Joy!
Motivational Monday – Choose Joy
My Monday started out a little differently than it usually does. I woke up earlier than I typically do, already fretting about the day ahead. I was thinking about my scheduled visit to the local medical center for a procedure my specialist recommended. I was anxious and unsure of what to expect.
It took me 30 minutes to get to the medical center, kids in tow. I put on my bravest face, and in we marched. The front desk staff was all smiles, warm and welcoming. What a pleasant surprise, especially on a Monday. I was in and out in under 20 minutes when all was said and done. It wasn’t as bad as I’d prepared for mentally, and for that, I was grateful.
As I got in the car and turned on the radio, the song that came on sent a message loud and clear. It was for King and Country’s “Joy.” Here’s a snippet of the lyrics –
…The time has come to make a choice
And I choose joy
Let it move you, let it move, let it move you
Yeah, I choose joy
Let it move you, let it move, let it move you
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of night
Oh, with You by my side, I’m stepping into the light
I choose joy
Let it move you, let it move, let it move youI need that joy, joy, joy, joy
Down in my heart, down in my heart to stay
I need that joy, joy, joy, joy
Down in my heart, down in my heart to stay
The Choice is Yours – Choose Joy
As the song played, I started to shift my thinking. Things could always be worse. Whatever the results are, I’ll deal with it. I’ll keep the faith and know that I’ll get through it. How we handle things oftentimes comes down to our attitude. I adjusted my attitude, and things started to look and feel better.
We can’t change what happens to us or what we’re faced with some days, but we can choose how we react. Though our circumstances may not change, our perspectives can. You get to choose. I hope you’ll deliberately choose joy.
