Get to know Sonja of Pintester
1. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been a blogger just about since time began… Well, fine– since about 2000, when blogging began. I started out with a Xanga blog (remember those?) and have blogged regularly since then. Of course, I’ve had a few different blogs and many iterations of my personal journal-style blog. I’ve been blogging at Pintester.com for almost 3 years now and it’s been a lot of fun to work on something with a more specific niche, and a lot more traffic than my personal blog ever got.
2. What do you blog about?
Pintester.com is all about my various attempts at re-creating what I find on Pinterest. Most of the time, I fail ridiculously (and humorously), although I do have the occasional success.
3. Why did you start blogging?
Way back in 2000, the thing about blogging that appealed to me most was the instant feedback. I’ve always been a writer, but I’d never been able to get comments on my writing that fast. The comments and community on my blog are still the thing I love the most. On many occasions, the comments have been funnier than the post itself!
4. What is your FAVORITE post you’ve ever written (you can pick 2)?
The most popular post on my blog is still the strawberry mug cake, so I have to include that one. Here’s a hint: When you cook a cake in a mug, it’s going to end badly. Â I think the one I had the most fun writing was man-pleasing chicken, because I got to get creative with how I presented the results. (You’ll see.)
5. What blog do you love?
There are so many! I read lots of blogs every day. CraftFail.com is a favorite in my genre (and, bonus, I get to guest post there). I also really like Brittany, Herself. When I first started Pintester, she’s the blogger that inspired me to push the boundaries of what I thought would be “acceptable” for me to write about. She’s hilarious and over-sharey, and also really inspiring!
6. What is your biggest piece of advice for other bloggers?
Pick a topic that you’re passionate about, and one that you’ll be able to write about for a long time. (I’ll never run out of Pinterest pins to test!)
7. What are you looking forward to for you as a blogger in the upcoming months (conferences, big blog release, book release, publishing, community, redesign, new content, etc)?
I’m always looking for the next big thing! I hope the coming months will bring lots of new, funny posts, and I’m hoping to get back into a regular video posting schedule. I’ve let my video blogs slide a little bit lately. Stay tuned for exciting stuff!
