When I started blogging back in the late 90’s, before we even called it blogging, I came to writing with a sense of purpose and direction. I needed an outlet where I could say what I wanted and express myself.
Back then I worked for a great, big fortune 500 company that looked down on people having opinions and ideas that were outside the box. Funny, all but one of the people I reported to back then, were let go not long after I gave my two weeks’ notice. I learned pretty quickly that working in an environment like that wasn’t for me and I moved on to bigger and better adventures.
Bigger and better adventures that took me to amazing places and shaped my life in ways I could never even imagine. Adventures that led me to start a charitable organization, get married, travel, have children, change careers and so much more.
Somewhere along the way, I lost my voice. I stopped writing about what moved me and started writing about what was popular. I think part of it was that I was too busy to sit down and think about what moved me. Part of it may have been that some things were just too personal to write about in an open forum. And so, like others, I started writing about what everyone else was talking about – even though that’s not really my style.
Now, entering into the second month of 2010 I’ve got a better idea of what I want to write about. I know I’ll write about the things that move me to speak up, the stuff that tears at my heartstrings and the things I love.
I hope you’ll enjoy the journey we’re about to embark upon together. However, if you decide to change courses along the way, know that I’m glad we shared the ride together this far, and know that I wish you well, wherever your path leads you.
Let's keep the conversation going ...
