Happy Easter! Love Has Won
Happy Easter, friends! Love has won! I regularly share my daily devotions on social media. Lately, I’ve been feeling the tug at my heart to share my walk with Christ and my relationship with God in a more permanent place, my blog. I hope that what I share inspires and encourages you to learn more about Jesus – or dive more deeply into your relationship with The Lord.
Today, I’m sharing the Easter sermon from my church. Enjoy!
What would you say about a prisoner whose sentence had been overturned, but they decided they would just as soon stay in prison? That’d be crazy, right? What would you say to the notion that we oftentimes act like we are institutionalized when it comes to our faith?

Get Up
Today, we’re reading from Romans 6:1-11.
What would you say about a prisoner whose sentence had been overturned, but they decided they would just as soon stay in prison? That’d be crazy, right? What would you say to the notion that we oftentimes act like we are institutionalized when it comes to our faith?
Being United to Jesus
1. Being united to Jesus frees us from __________!
Romans 6:1–11 — 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death He died, He died to sin, once for all, but the life He lives He lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
GET UP Into New Life
2. Get Up to a _______________!
How can we get up into that new life that is free from sinful independence?
3. Make __________ your home. Romans 6:1
God’s Grace
If God’s grace increases to always exceed our sin, then doesn’t it make sense to sin a lot? I mean, more grace is a good thing, right?
4. Grace is no _______________ to sin.
Live the Life
5. Live the life of __________. Romans 6:2-4
Believing in Jesus
6. Believing in Jesus __________ us!
Galatians 2:20 — 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Unplug
7. _______________ from your old life. Romans 6:5-7
Being United to Jesus
8. Being united to Jesus means I am __________ from sin.
Ephesians 4:22–24 — 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Think Clearly
9. Think _______________ about your _______________ to Jesus. Romans 6:8-11
Your Future
10. Your _______________ is secure in Him!
Let’s talk about getting up…
- What’s wrong with the idea that the best way to promote the grace of God is to be an extraordinary sinner (v.1)?
- What does it mean to be “baptized into Christ Jesus” (v.2)?
- What’s the most accurate way to talk about the cause for the resurrection of Jesus (v.4)?
- What does it mean to “walk in newness of life” (v.4)?
- How does a person become united with Jesus (v.5)?
- What does it mean that our old self was crucified with Jesus (v.6)?
- How do we know that the death Jesus died was enough for our salvation (9-10)?
- Why is it so important that we “consider” ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus (v.11)?

Begin Your Relationship with God
God wants a relationship with you. Scripture says, “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Romans 10:13 If you would like to know Christ, all you have to do is receive the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ by saying a prayer of salvation. Pray this aloud: “Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins. Come into my heart. Wash me clean. I make you my Lord and Savior, Amen.” We believe that if you prayed that simple prayer, you have been born again. You are starting with a clean slate, and you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Keep God first place in your life. Learn to pray. Prayer is simply talking to God like you would talk to a friend. Mark today’s date; write it down in your Bible – this is the day of new beginnings in your life! God bless you!
