Dear Bloggers,
Let’s talk. We love you, really, we do. But there are some things that we think we need to discuss. Actually, we discuss and you implement. That’s where “Dear Bloggers” comes in. “Dear Bloggers” is a tongue-in-cheek, snarky, Blogging 101 series helping you become a better blogger via blogging tips and suggestions.
Dear Bloggers, Stop Strong-Arming Us
We understand you want subscribers and comments, but forcing us to subscribe to your newsletter/mailing list in order to comment is just a wee bit pushy. It feels like you’re strong-arming us into doing something we’d probably do anyway – you know, if you weren’t making it a condition for commenting. Not cool. Stop that! We’ll subscribe if we want to. Don’t force us. That’s bad blog etiquette.
Dear Bloggers, While We’re Talking Comments…
Please don’t disable the good ole fashioned way of commenting. We’re looking at you Blogger users. Yes, you have options like using AIM, Google, OpenID, etc, to comment but we’d still like the option to enter our name and site just like in the good old days. Disable that option and we’re outta there faster than you can hit refresh on a captcha.
Dear Bloggers, Do You Even Check Your Own Links?
You know we’re all up in your blogs, in your RSS feeds and everywhere else you are – kinda like stalkers, but in a good way. One thing we’ve noticed, you’re not checking your own sh, er, stuff. We want to share your posts but we can’t do that if your RSS feeds don’t take us to the correct place. We use Feedly, you should, too. A good way to make sure everything is working properly is to add your own feed in there and then click through some of your links. Go check your links, fix what’s broken and we’ll wait here. :)

This week, I just went in and did an inventory on my blog. I had broken links and other tweaks to make. Wise advice, as always!
