2nd Grade: This Week’s Spelling Words
This week’s 2nd grade spelling words really gave me pause for thought. The Dayngrous Duo are both in second grade now in their new school but they aren’t in the same class. I find it interesting that though they’re both in the same grade, there doesn’t seem to be an across-the-board standard to what they learn each week. I thought for sure each teacher in each grade would be using the same syllabus.
I tried getting a straight answer from their teachers about why this is but I got the runaround. One said she doesn’t have set books in which she teachers from, she uses a variety – including college books, and the other said that there is a second-grade lead teacher who coordinates the lesson plans for the teachers or something to that effect. Neither could tell me why each class isn’t learning the same things together each week.
To supplement their public school education, I’ve been purchasing from this book series that covers the fundamentals of what your child should know for each grade. It’s been a wonderful tool.
