Alright ladies and gents… it’s Friday, which means you get to {Meet} another one of our members! Miss Maddie of The Whimsy One shared her thoughts with us on how she started blogging and why she loves what she does! We love having her as a part of our network. So without further ado, {Meet} Maddie!
{Meet} Maddie of The Whimsy One
1. How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for a little over four years.
2. What do you blog about?
I blog about a little bit of everything on my main blog, The Whimsy One. I am known for creating cocktails, but love to showcase some of our travels and recipes I have tweaked to make my own. Usually, my blog is a bit light-hearted, but I also sometimes delve into my struggle with mental illness and our prolonged journey with infertility. I do have two more specific blogs, Thankfull Tummy, which is just about food and restaurants and Raleigh Revealed, which up unto this point has been more Instagram focused, but I am in the process of making it a blog.
3. Where are you blogging from in NC, and why do you love the area you blog about?
We live in North Raleigh, almost in Wake Forest. I love how the restaurant scene is really starting to hop in the Oak City. There are tons of festivals and events year round, excellent coffee shops and breweries. Probably the one activity I love the most (and always look forward to) is the outdoor movie series they have each weekend in the summer at the North Carolina Art Museum. We are centrally located here in The Triangle, and therefore it’s rather easy to explore the rest of the Old North State.
4. Why did you start blogging?
My answer may be quite different than the typical, haha. I was in an intensive program for PTSD and part of my therapy was to start a site, whatever we wanted it to be about. In the beginning no one but me and my therapist saw it and once I was finished, I discovered I truly enjoyed it and went more public with it. The relationships I have garnered from the blogging community is by far the best part about blogging.
5. Out of all the posts you’ve written, which one (or two) would you pick as your favorite?
This post, Italia, is about our family trip to Italy, and it’s one I really love. It ended up being published on a few different sites. It just conjures up such fabulous memories.
Another one I love is this cocktail I created last year, The Autumn Palmer. A cocktail that reminds me of North Carolina because Arnold Palmer went to Wake Forest when the school was still located here and before it moved to Winston-Salem. I often go for walks on the campus, as it is just down the street.
6. What blog(s) do you love?
Wow, this is a really hard question as I am an avid blog reader and I have so many fabulous friends that blog. I will list a few of my favorites.
- The Life of the Baseball Wife
- Champagne and Suburbs
- The Barbee Housewife
- Being Bracco
- A Spicy Perspective
7. What’s one piece of advice you’d share with your fellow bloggers?
Have fun, sometimes go outside of your comfort zone, and be authentic!
8. What three things do you know to be true?
This is one that is making me think! Well, with us recently celebrating Good Friday, I will start with my faith being my stronghold. I am a fervent believer that sweet tea just tastes better in a mason jar. And lastly, I am certain that if I can’t travel to a new place for myself, reading a book is the second best way to experience somewhere new.
