Good morning, bloggers! We’re excited to introduce you to Emily today. Emily runs two blogs – The Edible Coast and The Southern Belle Blog. We’re proud to announce that Emily is also one of our newest NC Blogger Network Ambassadors, representing the Outer Banks. We can’t wait for you to get to know her below!
{Meet} Emily from The Edible Coast and The Southern Belle Blog
1. How long have you been blogging?
10+ years. I started blogging back when I was in middle school/high school mostly for friends.
2. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging just for fun and to hopefully share a piece of my world with others (at that time, it was mostly just with friends). Over the years I’ve grown in my blogging style and skills and continue to blog because I enjoy it. I like being able to reach out and connect with others that I might not ordinarily be able to meet.
3. What do you blog about?
I blog mostly about food (recipes, restaurant reviews), travel, gardening, building my homestead, my chickens, and just generally about life. Sometimes I feature novel and film reviews. I run two blogs – The Edible Coast and The Southern Belle Blogs, and try to make The Edible Coast more of a niche blog (food/travel) and The Southern Belle Blogs more of a lifestyle blog so I can post whatever comes to mind there.
4. Where are you blogging from in NC?
Elizabeth City, NC
5. Out of all the posts you’ve written, which one (or two) would you pick as your favorite?
Two of my favorites are Heritage Harvest Festival [Charlottesville] and A Jockey’s Ridge Adventure.
6. What blogs do you love?
Two of my favorites are Farmette (she’s a blogger in Ireland – a place I would love to go) and Babes and Beignets (a group of bloggers in New Orleans – another place I’d love to visit).
7. What’s one piece of advice you’d offer your fellow bloggers?
Find your reason for blogging. Not everyone wants to make money for their blog (even though for many, that is their end game). Some merely want to get their opinions out in the world, carve out a little niche of their own. Find your reason, remember it, and never sacrifice your voice and your view.
8. What’s are three things do you know to be true?
- The first is that I love my dog, no matter how naughty she sometimes likes to act.
- The second thing I know to be true is that I will eventually find my dream place where I can build my homestead and has lots of fruit trees.
- The third thing that I know to be true is that our time on this planet is limited so we have to make the best of what we have before us.
9. Where can we find you on the web?
- Blog: TheEdibleCoast.com and The Southern Belle Blogs

And finally, is there anything else you’d like to add that you want people to know about you – professional affiliations, any other place they can find you, etc.
In addition to working a traditional full-time job and blogging, I also run two businesses on the side, spa•witch and The Southern Belle’s Garden.
Let's keep the conversation going ...
