Can I be brutally honest for a second? Until recently, I’d never heard of The Harlem Globetrotters. And after reading about all of the great things that this group is involved in with communities around the world, I have to ask myself, “Have I been living under a rock?!” Seriously though, how did I not know about this amazing organization of basketball players that are involved in so many things that are dear to my heart?
In case you’ve been bumming it out under a rock like me, The Harlem Globetrotters are a team of talented basketball players whose games are more than just passing and shooting a basketball. Their games are more like shows in the sense that they focus on entertaining the crowd with trick shots and unconventional passing routines. The Globetrotters are often referred to as “jovial jocks” for their fun, comedic routines that keep people laughing and entertained throughout the whole performance. They promise to keeps fans on the edge of their seats by witnessing “the ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that thrills fans of all ages”.
Often referred to as “Ambassadors of Goodwill”, The Harlem Globetrotters are also heavily involved in community projects worldwide. The Great Assist, Smile Patrol, The ABCs of Bullying Prevention, and C.H.E.E.R. are just some of the programs they’ve founded to benefit communities. I can really appreciate their program, The Great Assist, because it focuses on spreading acts of kindness and goodwill across North America by giving messages about bully prevention, visiting children’s hospitals, building homes for the needy, physical fitness and character building, and so much more.
Opportunity to See The World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters in Raleigh
I can’t wait to see The Harlem Globetrotters for the first time! And you can, too! This iconic team is preparing for their most epic tour as they celebrate their 90th-anniversary world tour, and one of their stops is in Raleigh, North Carolina, this month. The PNC Arena in Raleigh will be hosting The Globetrotters on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 3:00 pm. My mother-in-law is, shall we say, a very straightforward woman, and she swears it’s nothing short of amazing. See you in Raleigh!
