Tips for Shopping at Charlotte Area Farmers Markets

Here are several tips for shopping at Charlotte area Farmers Markets:

• Bring Cash/Small Change – Depending on the size of the Market, the farmers will only have cash and they won’t have a lot of small bills to hand out. Gather your $1 & $5 dollar bills and your coins before you go.

• Bring Your Own Shopping Bags – Most farmers will have plastic shopping bags to put your goods in, but just in case, bring your own shopping bags. If we are “doing the right thing” by shopping from local farmers, we might as well take a step in saving our environment too.

 

• Shop Early or Shop Late – Going to the Farmer’s Market early allows you to see the greatest selection of items as well as have your pick of the freshest produce. Shopping close to closing time might get you in on deal, the farmers want to sell their produce so they may be willing to sell it at a reduced price.

• Don’t Buy the First Watermelon you see – This goes for all produce/goods at a Farmers Market. The price range can vary widely at a Farmers Market. I suggest “walking” the Market first -See what everyone is offering quality and price wise, then go back to those farmers that are offering the highest quality for the lowest price.
