{Meet} Jacob of My Untangled Life
1. How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in 2008 so it’s going on 8 years now, WOW I haven’t added that up in awhile!
2. What do you blog about?
You name it. But when I’m blogging just for myself and my own blog, I tend to write about geeky stuff like WordPress and Google, or personal confessions about my struggles to become the best me I could possibly be. Or my dog!
3. Where are you blogging from in NC?
I mainly sit in Oak Island, but you’ll often find me working in Port City Java’s from Southport to Wilmington. In fact, I’m sitting in the Brunswick Forest PCJ location in Leland, NC right now. Shout out to my man Caleb for the perfectly crafted iced latte as per usual!!
4. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging mainly to learn WordPress. At the time, both WP and blogging were pretty new and I was beyond bored with building ugly, static websites in html. My father is a writer and I have always found writing to be a very challenging yet equally therapeutic process. So with blogging, specifically on WordPress, the combination of next generation web development and authoring/publishing tools had me hooked immediately.
5. Out of all the posts you’ve written, which one (or two) would you pick as your favorite?
I would pick two very different posts – Google Search, A Love Poem and Rebirths, Clichés, and Rescue Hounds.
6. What blog(s) do you love?
When I need a straight up escape into everything that is wonderful in the world, I hit the blog at packdog.com to hang with other crazy dog lovers. For real-world, practical small business related stuff I’m a huge fan of the blog at freshbooks.com. When it comes to food, my go-to spot is fellow vegetarian, Jerry James Stone.
7. What’s one piece of advice you’d share with your fellow bloggers?
Do your own thing, follow your own rules, be you, and blog because you want to. At this point everyone has a blog or blogs somewhere, and I’m including companies in this as well. To do it well with consistency is not easy as you and your readers know! I truly believe we’re coming into a time in the blogosphere where less is more, and unique and authentic will be valued at a much higher level.
8. What are you looking forward to as a blogger in the upcoming months (conferences, big blog release, book release, publishing, community, redesign, new content, etc)?
I am coming apart at the seams to announce a project that is incredibly near and dear to my heart and soul. It’s still got a ways to go but will involve animal rescuers and bloggers along with no-kill shelters and organizations around the country. To say I’m looking forward to it is beyond an understatement!
